He wrote the one call, "A Child Called It," right? That was a very intense book.

Yes, that's him and BARD just put another one out, something like "A Man Named Dave".
I'm not rave enough to read them, although I have seen him speak. The atrocities his so called mother did to him -I have no words.

I've seen them on BARD, but I don't think I would ever read them. I've seen him on TV from time to time and heard him describe some of the things he went through, and that was enough for me. There are just some things I naturally avoid. It's why I haven't read Jaycee Lee Dugard's book either.

If I remember correctly, he wrote three: A Child Called It, The Lost Boy, and A Man Named Dave. I had to read the first one for a college class. It's incredibly hard reading, not in the sense of how it's written, but what it describes. There are rumors that he exaggerated the abuse for the sake of the books, but I don't know how true or false that may be.

Interesting, I didn't know there were rumors that he exaggerated the abuse. Does this have anything to do with the false memories controversy, by any chance?
Having said that, I did read A Child Called It, and it was a very intense and graphic read for sure. I never read the other two. What are they like? I assume they talk about his journey to healing and recovery?

Whatever you do, please try not to read a child called it alone, because it will have you tearing into a box of tissuepaper. I made that mistake of reading it alone a few years ago, and it was brutal

I'd heard some rumors that other people claimed he exaggerated the abuse. Frankly, I find that such claims tend to sound like justifications or excuses. Or people who try to put their head in the sand and don't wanna believe some people are every bit the monster they were painted to be.

If only a fraction were true, it is still horrendous.

Yes, it really is.

If you want to read something that will truly make you feel as if you need to take a shower, read a book called Precious by Saffire. There's also a sequel but honestly, I couldn't even get through it. I'm pretty tough when it comes to most things but man, that series was brutal.

Precious? As in, the movie of the same name?

I don't remember if it's on BARD or not. I read it via bookshare several years ago. The movie is on blindmice movie vault.

Yeah, that's how I got the movie. Not bad, although I hate watching movies before reading the books they were based from, because that alters my perception of what I should expect. It was that way when I saw Girl, Interrupted. I love that movie. When I tried to read the book, the writing style didn't match at all what I associated with that story, so I gave up on it.
